Hi, everyone, new to the forum and my first post, so nice to meet you

I have 3 platies on the verge of giving birth. This is my first time taking care of newborn fry. We are planning a weekend trip out of state. We're leaving next Friday and returning on Monday. Are there any weekend feeders for fry, or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks for your help

Ann Marie

You don't say how big your tank is or how many other fish are in the tank. I think the best thing would be to put a bunch of Najas grass into the tank for the fry to hid in and feed off.

If you have other fish in the tank or this is a show tank you could add artificial plants for the fry to hide in. 3 days is not that long for fry to go without feeding. Having live plants in the tank would go a long way to keeping them over for the few days you are gone.

Feed heavy for the next couple of days and do a water change on Thursday. I have all planted tanks and often times my fish will go a few days without being fed with little or no ill effect to the fry.

Thanks so much. I have all my fish in a 29 gallon tank. I picked up a divider an a few plants. (I'm guessing water grass...pet store lady didn't know) . I have a 1.5 gallon set up with some java fern to use as a breeder. However, I put one of my mollies in it over the weekend, thinking she was in labor, and she died. So, I had to clean it because, I came home from work today and found a fry (only 1) swimming around the big tank. Little guy's spending the night in the breeder that's in the 29g.

Thanks again for your help, I greatly appreciate it.
