Just heard about the passing of Glenn Takeshita on January 26, 2012. This was someone who contributed enormously to our understanding of livebearer genetics. I read many articles written by him back in the early 70s, and learned a great deal. Even in his later years, he helped many younger researchers learn how to breed and produce fancy livebearers.

We seem to be losing so many of the "greats" in recent years. Goodbye, Glenn, you will be missed by many.

Do you know the best way to access his papers and work online?

He most certainly was a great one and his loss will be deeply felt in the Livebearer community.  Thanks for letting everyone know of his passing.

Obituary from the Honolulu Star:
Glenn Y. Takeshita, 76, of Honolulu, a retired Board of Water Supply chemist, died in Straub Clinic & Hospital. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by wife Millie Y., brother Clyde T. and sister Claudia Yano.

I'm sad to hear that Mr. Takeshita is gone.
He and used to correspond on a fairly regular basis after he contacted me in response to my 1980's ad in the Trading Post section of Livebearers bulletin for my Hifin Rubynose Variatus.
I still have some of his hand written letters (That's the way we did it before home computers and cell phones)
He asked my opinion on a couple of his articles before submitting them!
Even though I learned a lot from him, he always respected my knowledge and opinions on Fancy Xiphophorus and bought fish from me at least a couple of times (I never acquired any fish from him, but he shared slides and photos with me.)

Does anyone know if TFH and FAMA will be doing anything honoring Mr. Glenn Y. Takeshita?

As many articles and photographs that he submitted to them, especially TFH I think they should do something!

Why has this forum gone so quiet??????

I don't know if they're going to, but I agree that they should.  It would also be great if anyone wants to write about him for the Livebearers Journal.

Melody,

Normally I would, but I think my membership has expired.

Mike Yamamoto is doing something honoring Glenn which will be in TFH magazine!

Also, I just sent something to Bill Allen for the 'Livebearers Bulletin' I guess it will be used?
