Building a Pond for livebearers
#1
I moved my above ground pond construction page to the following link.

http://rumblefische.blogspot.com/2011/08/building-pond.html

I use the pond to keep livebearers (Limia, Chapalichthys) from Spring to Fall in Austin, TX. They grow large, have great color and breed like crazy - anyone in Austin need some cool livebearers, I've always got plenty to share.

Very nice set up. That is a very good size for livebearers and it looks nice as well.

I bet you could keep some Allotoca goslinei during the winter. On really cold nights/days you might need to drop a heater into the pond but I keep them at about 60 in the winter, Characodon lateralis & Ilyodon xantusi down to about 50 degrees. They won't breed at those temps but they will be happy. You could also put some Gymnogeophagus sp. out there during the winter. In their native range the water can get down into 40's. I usually try to put some out when the water temperature gets into the 50's in Michigan.

A good way to keep the heat in at night (so you can keep fish in the pond later in the fall) is a piece of a pool solar blanket. Nice job BTW!

Google killed my blog - something about spam, whatever. Here's is another link.

http://timforsythe.com/fische/pond.html

Having said that, I'm moving and had to tear down the ponds this weekend. I'm giving away for free (and you can't beat those prices) all the fish and plants to anyone in Austin, TX who wants to come get them.

There are 2 koi (obviously)
A few dozen livebearers, being breeding populations of Limia melanonotata (perugiae), Limia vittata, and Chapalichthys pardalis (Mintzita population). Other fish available are 4 large clown barbs (4") and 2 large and 1 small Ancistris sp., several assorted guppies and platies.
Plants: a lotus, several lilies, and assorted other plants.

contact me at tjforsythe@gmail.com ASAP is you want any or all of the above.
