I have bought 2 female platies,1 male platy, 1 black lyretail molly and 1 female balloon molly.
How can I tell if the females are pregnant? Since they came from a tank filled with mixed genders so I bet the females are all preggo
Do they get a gravid spot like guppies?
Especially, how do I tell if my balloon molly is pregnant? She is quite round like she's supposed to be.
The balloon molly does hide behind some plants sometimes but then she comes back to the others.
My females platies are not round like pregnant guppies are.
Thanks in advance!

Odds are pretty good that if they came from a tank of mixed sexes, that they are pregnant.

My own experience with mollies is that they do not get a visible colored gravid spot. This is a picture of one of my females the day before she dropped fry. I just do not see a color change in her. On the other hand she is very heavy and well squared off.

My experience in mollies is when they get rounded and look pregnant they probably are but when they get squared they are within a day or two of dropping. I seperated a guppytail female two days ago theat woas getting squared . This morning before I left for work she started giving birth. I hcannot tell you the times I have been right on a female I would wait because of my instinct. Sometimes within a hour of seperating she would give birth. I even use the exact water from her original tank so ther ewas very little change. This is ont hing I am usually alway right about. Look for the squared belly feed more frequently and plent of hiding places for fry. then go to colony breeding.

I forgot to mention my experience is the same as above not always a gravid spot noted. I have had mollies that didnt even look pregnaant and suddeenly fry but who gave birth. There did not appear to be any pregnant females in the tank.. No that ids rare. I usually know from watching my fish when they are pregnant and about to drop. You learn a lot by watching your own fish
