So I decided to conduct an experiment with the greenworks line of dish soap. I took a mature filter and some of my culls and put them in a ten gallon tank. I then added two tablespoons of greenworks dish soap and left it for two weeks with no water changes. I know what your thinking, poor fish, it sure is hard being a culled fish, you either become fish food for larger fish or you get used in Mikes crazy experiments. I did feed the fish regularly and after two weeks not a single fish had died and the filter still seemed to be fine as there were no detectable levels of ammonia in the tank. I use this soap to wash my hands before I mess with any of the tanks or feed any of the fish and I wanted to see how safe it really was. Now Im not saying to go and add this stuff to all your tanks but for washing your hands if a little were to get left on them your fish would not suffer. So to wrap it up I will say this stuff is fish safe and frog approved. If anyone has any experiences with any other cleaning chemicals that they use, that are either safe or unsafe, please post it.

Actually, I've always washed with degreasing dish soap. Dish washing liquids are formulated so as to not leave a film on your dishes, which is different from hand washing soaps or laundry detergents. I figured if it's not supposed to leave a film on the dishes, it shouldn't be leaving anything on your hands, either. First tried this about the mid 1970s. So far, so good.
I did make a mistake once and tried to use a clean but ragged T shirt as filter material on a tank (I was even more broke then than I am right now!). Next day I had killed 5 of 6 rare Geophagus, and the aeration was leaving a few bubbles on the surface. Funny thing, the Keyhole Cichlids in the same tank were jumpy, but alive.
I have had good experiences with ether TSP or very very very small amounts of bleach for sanitizing tanks. I think that they are both safe if you use them correctly.

Hello All I've done as Chromedome has done and just used a little Palmolive dishwashing liquid to clean and rinse my hands before I venture into one of my aquariums. I've been doing this for years with no side effects whatsoever.
