Feed 'em, give them water changes. A week is not enough time to see if they breed. Give them some time, and you'll probably have something within 45-60 days. If they're happy, they'll breed. Don't keep them too warm, either, nor feed them rich foods...
Alex, you need to be a bit patient. The Amecas are probably already breeding without you noticing it. If you have mature, over 2 inches, Amecas, ask again about breeding in about 2 months if you have yet to see fry. I find Amecas to be "just add water" fish but they are a delight in my tank. To ensure they are in good breeding condition they need to be big enough, the ones I saw at the convention were a bit small, and it helps to condition them on foods high in vegetable matter. Before they fell out of favor in the fish trade, they were sold as algae eaters.
the biggest thing with Livebearing fish is patience.. Water changes... And good food... In time you should have babies... Killies are the same way but with them you need soft water and live food for them to be at their best... Chiclids need for the most part bigger tanks yes I know about the shell dwellers and can use smaller tanks... and it depends on where the chilids come from what kind of water they need hard soft or somewhere inbetween and what to feed them I could go on and on but Alex I hope the biggest thing you learn is to be Patient remember ROME was not built in a day...
I need to learn to be patient! I have actually never seen fish breed. My Ameca spendens are a little small. Does anyone know of good Ameca splendens food?
