Dear BobB,

There are reputable places online. Some of the sellers on Aquabid are great, others suck. I've been ripped off a couple of times (selling and buying).

One place I would endorse is the Wetspot in Portland, http://www.wetspottropicalfish.com/ However, their shipping is costly. Another good fish source is AnubiasDesign, Mark Denaro. I've been able to get Hemirhamphidon halfbeaks from him. His shipping is not cheap either.

Good luck,

Earl

Earl, you forgot to mention the ALA. Most (if not all) members of the ALA are a fantastic source of livebearers online.

Join up and along with fish, you will get great advice from great fishkeepers aswell.

ALA members are the more serious Livebearer breeders, generally speaking. We know how to care for them properly and practice responsible breeding. We also understand the importance of collection data and maintaining species purity. Fancy domestics are bred with a solid list of priorities in mind, including strength, as opposed to breeders who focus on appearance alone.

While there are certainly non-members who do the same, I find my odds are much better when dealing with ALA members. In fact, I've yet to be disappointed. They have always gone out of their way to help a fellow club member and the fish are exceptional in every way.

What's more, trading is big amongst club members and it is a fantastic way to both expand your resident species list and make new friends.

In other words, I second that, Bob, and we'd love to have you join in on the fun.

Most of the ALA members are probably your best bet when it comes to purchasing fish via the internet. As well as getting them at the 2010 Convention in Detroit.

What about for buying Limia sp.? I can only find them at Karma Farms Aquatics, but hear less than positive stories about that business.

Welcome to the forum Shoegazer.
Are you looking for any particular Limia? I keep the melanogasters and perugia but I know other members have others.

Thanks Oldman,

I'm very interested in acquiring the smaller species, particularly caymanensis and tridens. Shoot me a message regarding melanogaster.

I'm also interested in some of the obscure Caribbean Gambusia. Guess I need to join the ALA and see what people are keeping, eh?

I wouldn't recommend Karma Farm Aquatics I ordered Caymenensis from them in September and still have received nothing. Besides local breeders i've gotten some Limia's from breeders on here and people of the ALA are very giving, or also on Aquabid the seller Bhodgkiss sells them for about $10 a pair and their good fish.

Thanks, southwest. That clinches it - I will not be buying from them. Have you been able to find another source for the caymanensis since?
