Dear FishFolk,

The website should be going live this week so I'd like to welcome people to the new forums. The forums (like the website) are a work in progress and I'd appreciate your patience as we get things working. Not that I don't want to hear about things that don't work but please keep the criticisms constructive.

Best wishes,

Earl

If the old threads weren't continued into this version, then there's been a lot of activity in a short time, and that's great to see.

Glad the hard work paid off in getting this going again.

Dear FishFolk,

Unfortunately, we haven't been able to archive the old forum posts. So everything is starting from scratch.

I thought the e-Trader was going to be on the website. Am I missing it? Or will it be input later?

Starting in June, I will be responsible for putting out the paper "Trader". I will definitely be putting an electronic copy of the "Trader" on this website with each issue.

I haven't heard any discussion yet as to whether we will load an advertisement module on the website and have everyone post their own ads online.

In the next few weeks I will be putting out a call for ads for the June edition of the "Trader".

Thanks Joel. I didn't know the timetable, so this is good news.
I'll send you a want list offline until the electronic version is up and running.

There are ads modules for xoops. I haven't looked at any of them as of yet.

Dear Joel et al.,

I was hoping to avoid the website competing with the Trader. If you put an ad on the website why bother with the Trader?

Basically, I was thinking of following the AKA, they have a Business Newsletter (fish for sale, etc.) and it is now electronic and posted to the web site. I was hoping we could do the same thing with Trader. If you advertise in the Trader it will be on the website as well.

It's not written in stone though.

Earl

Earl,

Are we only going to update the online version of the Trader every two months at the same time the paper version is published or would we want to update the online version continually with each have/want that I receive?

I know in the past that the Trader editor has needed to almost badger people to send in ads. Would I just coordinate with Michael when I wanted to send out a communication to all the members?

Do you have an idea as to how the online publication will happen? Will I just send a PDF to Betty? Thanks.

Joel

Dear Joel,

We're going to have a page (archive) of the Trader. You can send the pdf to me. I had hoped to get the last couple from Bill but his computer is down. Fortunately I got the last Livebearer from him. Also going up soon but I have grades to work on.

If the Trader is every two months than an online area would be reasonable. The OKAA has a forum called The Trading Post (I just bought two 29 gallon tanks plus stand on it). It's easier than designing an input form for the ads and out of date material just drift down the message list out of sight, unlike online ads that can hang around too long.

What do other people think?

Earl
