I never thought that this type of male couldn't breed or produce offspring. It is a very nice looking fish.

I worked with Fancy Xiphophorus almost exclusively for almost 30 years and stopped a couple of years ago for personal reasons. I do plan to return to breeding in the near future.

I not only bred the fish, I also studied and specialized.(google darrell e mefford, platymef or mefford hifin rubynose)

My question is simple. If you breed one of these males to a non-Lyretail female are traditional Lyretails produced?

Hi Rainer,

I read your website, at least the parts in English, and I love what you're doing with these King Lyretails. I think they are beautiful fish. Keep up the good work.

I opened the link and read the article also, which answered my question.

Darrell, wouldn't you say that this "King Lyretail" is very similar, if not the same thing as Steven Saunders "Impreial Sword" from years past?

Rainer, Great job on your King Lyretail, I hope that you will be successful with them.

Shane,

From the photos I've seen of the "Imperial Swordtail" it was similar, but different from this "King Lyretail" The Imperial had sort of a semi-veil which this strain doesn't have. Both strains are "Bottom Heavy".

Thanks Darrell,

I always thought that the semi veil was added to the original Imperial Sword male that Steven Saunders discovered. I'll have to look for that article on them. I only ask because the Imperial Sword was a very nice fish and I would love to see it "redeveloped" some day. Let's hope that people are successful with this King Lyretail strain.

Shane,

I don't know very much about the Imperial Swordtail. I read the ALA article by Steve Saunders and the follow up article by Dr Joanne Norton which was reprinted in the special publication 'Fishes of the Genus Xiphophorus'

I never got a chance to correspond with Mr Saunders. Does anyone know if he's still around?

The photos and drawings of this strain show a very thick sword on the male and a bottom heavy semi-veil on both sexes.

Do you know of anyone who has a female white lyretail or albino lyretail swordtail.
I have micky mouse swordtails and found a male that is a lyretail breedable. I would like to get a female albino or white to develop lyretail micky mouse swordtails also.
Thanks

Do you or anyone you know of anyone who has albino lyretail swordtail. I have white micky mouse swordtails and now I have one breedable male lyretail micky mouse swordtail and if I could find a white or albino female lyretail I could reproduce hi. Of course I could cross with the micky mouse females but that would be much longer as we know.

Gerard,

Again, I would try www.rarelivebearers.com or www.platy-plus.com if you can't acquire any locally.
Otherwise, you could use any color Lyretail female I could find and back-cross to get the White body.
