Red x Koi Swordtail Genetics

Hi everyone, I'm in the process of buying 2 hifin lyretail red eye red swordtails and a male red eye koi swordtail. I was wondering what the offspring might turn out to be and what F1 or F2 crosses I would have to do to get Koi Lyretails. Also, would the crossing be more fertile? I heard something about red eye red lyretail swordtails being not so fertile, having small infrequent droppings. If anyone has any information about this please share it with me! Thanks in advance!

One thing I have heard is you do breeding in parallel. Male A with female B in one tank, male B with female A in another tank. Then breed the offspring together to get stable blends.

Hmm, I thought about doing that, but I would have to do AI to get a male lyretail to inseminate the female koi, and the whole process brings back the chills of the Junko Furuta incident that surfaced recently for me even though it may be a bit incongruous. I was reading around and I might just end up doing an F1 sibling cross between the best male normal sword and best female lyretail I get or cross the best colored female to the koi father. Thanks for the input though!

My suggestion is to put the Red Albino Hifin/Lyretail female with the Albino Koi male. Also check and see if any fry from a previous mating are born and if so, raise those Lyretail females and use them to breed to the Albino Koi.
It's not as complicated as people try to make it. But to get good Koi color you'll need to breed back to the best Koi even after the trait is captured on Lyretail.
Your F1's will probably not show the Koi pattern, unless the Lyretails are carrying it. It will appear in the offspring of the F1's.

Thanks, that helps a lot. It's nice that lyretail is dominant =D
Also, do you think the red swords will make the koi coloration of the future generations redder on the orange parts?

Yes, Lyretail, Hifin and Plumetail are all dominant traits and you'll get offspring with the trait in F1 with a breeding with fish without the trait.
Albino and Koi are recessive traits which will not show in F1 when bred to fish without it.
Yes, I would think that the Red would be deepened by the Red Albino, but the sharpness of the Koi pattern might be weakened.

Hmm, I guess I'll just have to keep breeding the female lyretail offsprings back to the koi male until I get the koi pattern. Thanks for the help!

Yes, that's why some strains of Koi Swordtail don't have sharp patterns and good color like others, because people are just letting them reproduce instead of controlling the crosses.
