I got these beauties almost a week ago. The salesperson told me they are " Rainbow Blue Platy's "
I believe they are Redway x Blue crosses. What do you all think?

That is not a variatus. The body is too deep, and I have never heard of wag being introduced to any variatus line. It is a maculatus strain, I would call it whatever they called it, although I would have added Wag to the variety name. The Blue and Red are in an interesting pattern, but I am not that knowledgeable in Platy genes, though I am familiar with a few that have been passed to Swordtails.

I can't believe I didn't think of them being blue wags! That just shows how long it's been since I've kept Platies!

Thanks everyone for your input.
With a little more research, I did find they are a maculatus type. My Blue MM bred with all three of them within 10 minutes of being in the tank. Horny devil. I love blue fish. Hopefully in about 4 weeks I will have blue babies for a nice christmas present.

Yes, your fish are of the "Maculatus" form. You can tell by the stocky body and also the shape and position of the dorsal fin.

Wag can and has been put on Fancy Variatus, so don't base whether a strain is "Maculatus" or "Variatus" on the Wagtail pattern.

**These fish probably do have "Variatus" in them (The Red caudal peduncle probably came from Variatus). But they have been bred back mostly to Maculatus and I would call them Fancy Maculatus.
