United Pet Group is voluntarily recalling Marineland Stealth and Stealth Pro aquarium heaters due to potential fire and laceration hazards. There have been 38 reports of fires that caused property damage and 45 reports of broken aquarium glass. There has been one report of an eye injury suffered when the heater forcefully broke in a consumer's hands.

The heaters were sold for between $20 and $300 at pet stores nationwide and online from January 2004 through February 2011.

I had a Stelth heater that fried my beautiful saltwater tank. I lost $200 worth of fish and corals. I can't believe they waited this long.

Dear FishFolk,

I bought three of these Stealth heaters a year or so ago. I threw all of them out before the recall. They worked at first. Later, one wouldn't heat up, one wouldn't turn off and I just didn't trust the third one. I think I have some sterile fish that were 85 - 90 F for a while.

Wish I'd kept the receipt.

Best wishes,

Earl

They used to be such a reliable, if expensive, brand. It's too bad so many people probably did the same as you have. They certainly did take their time recalling the heaters.

I never kept any receipts but found them easy to deal with. I simply told them how many of what capacity I have and they told me they were sending out Visi-therm replacements. I expect to see them arrive in the next few days.

No it is a golden teddy (Xenophallus umbratilis). Don't trust my spelling but that should get you close.
