I have a bunch of young P. velifera from fish collected on Isla Mujeres in the Yucatan by Armando Pou. Armando's original fish had a few black spots here and there. This line is now producing some all black fish but those do not become apparent until maturity as the black begins as a few spots on the fry and then increases as they grow. Basically, what we have here is the start of an all black pure velifera molly instead of the farm raised hybrids. The fry range from standard green velifera, to spotted, to marbled to black. The giant black sailfin males are gorgeous. I am not in a position to mail fish at this time but if people want to pick up fish that would be great. I am in northern New Jersey/Manhattan area. I'd be interested in trading for birchmanni.
Mollyman, I’m very interested in obtaining a trio or two from you .I do ship so if tim1954 wants a trio from you,you can make a deal with him and I would be willing to ship the fish to him.
Can you post pics of some of the adult males with there dorsal fins erect or at least in a up right position. I live in the bronx and I can drive and pick some up from you.
I wish you guys had been around last year when I was up to my ears in these fish. I ran into trouble in the last generation. The solid black fish did not produce offspring. I do not know why. All the fry I got from that generation came from their green and spotted siblings. To make matters worse, these fry did not grow out into large specimens but sexed out way to early compared to their parents. I almost just let the population go as three other people have it but I kept a few fry. These are now forming into 3 young males and 4 females with 2 of the males being 95% black. They are fairly good sized and still growing so I have real hopes for their future fry. With any luck I may be back on track soon. Charles Clapsaddle at Goliad Farms sells a huge population of wild caught P. velifera I gave him 4 years ago, plus a couple of other populations he picked up. I would contact Charles and see if he has any available. This black/black spotted line produces very colorful green males, an added bonus.
Golial Farms website states that It does not sell retail so if anyone here has regular business with them and can get me some of the P. velifera (spotted strain) please let me know.
