Cooper,
You work alot with swords, what do you think about trying to work on a solid white albino sailfin/Hifin sword?

If you want to strengthen the line try breeding them to the old fashioned red brick swords (no gold base in the red making the red velvet color so babies born are grey with red tails)if you can find them in mix shipments. Red bricks always produce nice hi fins and good size - much better than velvets of any kind. Velvet red wags would be a nice choice too as the black fins look great on fancies. Species crosses can be great and Roy's are the best swords I have ever seen but fertility problems abound. Roy uses artificial insemination for all his crosses. Armando Pou and I developed a hi fin red velvet x montezumae cross a few years ago out of Armando's line bred short finned monty x red velvet sword cross but in my hands they were never too fertile and varied in Armando's.

Bobby,
thanks for the advice. I'll try finding some red brick swords (I perfer solid colored fish). I've not had as much luck with domestic swords in general as I have with mollies. Wild swords, on the other hand have done better for me in the past.

I heard from Don you are breeding red lyretail swords?

I don’t think developing a solid white Sword would be too hard. I had one a few a couple of years ago, when I first started breeding Showa Swords .The first couple of drops were from females that were already prehit by unknown males .Some of the young were black and white with no red in them at all. There were a few that were almost solid white, only a few black flecks in their peduncle .I had one female that was solid white, unfortunately I lost her before she was able to breed her. If I was trying to develop a solid white I would use the Showa strain.Below is a picture of some young Showa's, the second fish down from the top is a black and white showa.

There are already white albinos, although many are more of a creamy colour. The ones sold as 'pink cheeks' or something like that, were more white. I think they were out of Europe. I don't recall seeing a white with fancy finnage though, that would be cool.

The Koi/Showa with a regular eye that I've seen, have a blue look to them. It's not a color, it's a tyndall effect of sorts. The more opaque white is in the old Peppermint strain.

I like your Showa strain, Copper. Some versions I like, some I don't.

Just yesterday I was talking to a few buddies of mine on developing a white Swordtail. We talked about the white Albino, and how it's not really white .They all though I should use the Showa Sword.

I would like to get some swords like the ones in this photo they look somewhat like the pand aplaty which I am raising. I started with a few and lost most of them but two females. They threw only a couple fry that survived and two are even better and one is a male so I will continue to work on the pand aplaty but would lik to see if anyone has any swordts that look like they could produce panda swords. Anyone has any mollies that could be use for this I am also interested in this. I am waiting to gety someIvory and ebony to work with on mollies. That will take a lot longer. I now have successfully developed some green wags that I will bringing to the show in cleveland in april. Maybe I will brings a load of pandas.
