Adrian Hernandez is a fairly small breeder who has done amazing work with creating endler hybrids. He also sells a few nice livebearers, mostly those that can be collected in Florida. You do need to read his ads carefully because he uses the wild stock quite often to "improve" things like mollies and much of what he sells, although gorgeous, is some form of hybrid. He will say that a particular strain of sailfin molly is derived from wild stock of this or that species, meaning it includes a large fraction of that species in the hybrid. If you have any questions, please ask him in a message, he is quite willing to tell you when he is working with a hybrid.
Hey Gerald, Adrian is a good guy to deal with for livebearers , He’s a good friend .I think he’s a member of the ALA.I talked to him a few months ago about a beautiful sailfin wag male I had stumbled upon, and I was looking for a few female, to breed him with .Adrian is the type of friend who puts the best fish he has in a box and sends them to you, and then tells you” When you get some fry send me some”. LOL . I’m a lucky man to have a friend like Adrian .So I got a box from him loaded with some of the most beautiful Mollies. I only wish I knew a little more about computers. I would love to put a video of my sailfins matting !!!The males dance and twirl around the females ,the females seem hypnotized or maybe just fascinated by the way the male moves ,its so bountiful to watch, I would love to share it with everyone on the ALA..
hey cooper do what I do when I can't figure out how to do something on here I ask the younger generation. one of the kids running around that you know will be able to tell you how or better yet have them up load it for you.. thats what I do.Plus it helps my wife is pretty savy with these gadgets too me I am all thumbs.
Hey Devon, My oldest son was over the house yesterday with the grandkids. He works in Manhattan ,He designs websites for large companies. He’s got a great job. When he was growing up ,I always told him he’s wasting his time on that computer playing games , he was always drawing pictures .I would tell him ,come with me and help me build homes for people. My wife would argue with me ,”let him be ! ’She would say ,I don’t want him working in Construction ! I never listened to her ,I made him work with me from a young boy ,just like I learned. But his heart was not into construction ,So he followed his dream and now he is able to do what he always dreamed of doing. But he still knows how to build a home ,I made sure of that !!! He wants to design a website for me. But this Monday I have an appointment to look at a new store .I’m thinking of opening a LFS again. The last one I had I sold when I moved out of that area. If I decide to take it my days on this computer are over. I won’t have time for this.
The same friend who picked up that pigeon blood sailfin male for me “Vinny“, sent me a picture of another male that he kept for himself. When I first seen this male I didn’t think too much about him. His dorsal fin at that time was small . But my friend keep telling me he’s got to grow ,He’s going to be great. My friend vinny/vinman was right .This male really improved in the last few weeks.
By the way the common mistake my name is gerard not gerald. I have raised both the sailfin and the goldwag sailfin. I certaainly know what you mean when they mate. I had ome male that had his dorsal fi up at all times. beautiful fish. Many of my fish are his offspring. I was really heartbroken when he went to fish heaven. Gerard
Hi Gerard ,sorry for the mistake.I also had raised Hybred sailfin mollies back in the early 60s and from what I can remember they were also very nice.Have always had a tank in my LFS that had Sailfin Mollies for sale. But most of them had good sailfins but they were like Latipinna or Petenensis sailfins. What I like about the ones that I'm working with now is they have enormous sailfins similer to Velifera.Have a male with a sail so large in relation to his body size he looks strange. Can't get a good picture of him.
