I was wondering what you guys would consider "good" food to feed your fish? I use either flake, freeze dried, pellets or blackworms..heres my "rundown"

I use Sera Flake, Freeze Dried and Pellets

I decided to go full blown sera cause they're food contains high levels of proteins and other vitamins along with 0 phosphorus which to my knowledge phosphorus isn't good for your tank nor fish right? even at 0.1 (i'm not 110% sure on that one but maybe I misread something)

I also don't feed frozen food's because I believe the bacteria doesn't die when its frozen if anything it is in a dormancy state until it "warms up" aka goes into your fish.

I use live blackworms and I know they can carry bacteria IF not taken care of what what I do is feed them as a "treat" and order just enough so I can use it up all in 1 day.

what do you guys feed your fish? and why? I'm not trying to be pushy but please give me some sort of knowledge or thought to why you feed what you feed..aka don't put down "oh I use tetramin cause my fish eat it up so fast it must be good" Give me some info please

I feed my freshwater fish Tetramin flake, Frozen brine shrimp and this egg flake that I use for fry. I feed my saltwater fish freeze dried shrimp and Hikari granules that I have been using for years now. I think that flake food is good as a staple diet but the fish need something extra to "fill in" the holes. I also think that they run the frozen foods under a UV light to kill bacteria. The diet you have there seems pretty balanced to me. It's good that you're not afraid to feed your fish the blackworms for some reason I am afraid of getting bitten by those things (probably because I have been stung by bristleworms).

I feed all kinds of commercial foods as a staple. I have been including food from Floridaguppiesplus and from Kens. Most of my livebearers are given flake that is high in vegetable content. I add in some feedings of various nematodes, called micro-worms in the hobby. I also use the frozen foods such as frozen daphnia and frozen blood worms. In the summer, like right now, I can be found prowling the neighborhood looking for mosquito larvae. It is a great food, the price is right and the fish love them. They can even be left in the tank without causing any problems by rotting because , if the fish don't eat them all today, they can live in the tank until they are eaten.

Do you ear steak every day. NOOOOOO neither do fish in the wild. Diversity is the key. I will be writing an rticle on fish nutrition in future ala publications so look out for it. Right now my main food is Spray dried krill. O only know one place to get it. The rest is diversity. Krill works best for my fry and growing young. I also use a grow food I can purchase. From time to time I add shrimp pellets and other things.

I think most commercial foods are not great food. Loaded with heat treated grains as cheap protein sources, starches and little to no fiber... so I make my own

That looks like good goldfish link Dataguru. My fish do not all get the same food because some are more vegetarian in nature and others are omnivores or even carnivores. Do you know of any recipes for specialized fish other than goldfish? Most of my livebearers might do OK with a diet high in leafy vegetable matter but there are some that would much prefer foods higher in fish protein.

Hey Betty,I believe most commercial dry foods are not worth the money you spend on them.Have a friend who feeds only dry food ,every now and then we split a drop of young. My half outgrows his by leaps and bounds,Double sometimes triple in size, compared to his.
I'm trying one of your Gel reciepes now, the Mackerel & Greens(66% Protein).I went out and bought all the ingredients,I feel like I'm in a Pillsbury Bake-Off.I'm going to start calling you Betty crocker.LOL

Try feeding your livebearers zucchini. They like it and it will give them LOTS of fiber.
