In another thread people were discussing species profile pages, and one member said "there is a wealth of info out there if you know how to look for it..."

Can you give some examples? Especially for wild type livebearers other than goodeids.

Well the first place to look in is the livebearer magazine we get. You should also go to www.goodieds.com and next is www.marineland.com for aquarium care.

the goodied link doesn't point to any goodied info... just a link farm.

Dr Tim's articles are no longer on the Marineland site since tetra ate them and he left.

I think he was asking for links to sites for wild livebearers other than godeids. A great site for wild xiphophorus is www.xiphophorus.org . Was there a specific type of wild livebearer you were trying to find information on?

This link really uses the fishbase data but makes it easier to locate the goodeids.

Thanks...I'm not really looking for info on any specific species, I'm just starting to get into wild types and learning about the different species so I can decide what I want to try. I have ordered Limia melanogaster from the classifieds here so that will be my first wild type livebearer.

I did find a subforum on goodeids.com about uncommon livebearers that was useful. Also viviparous.org.uk. I think the goodeids are fascinating, but I thought I should gain some experience with some of the easier wild types first.

The best thing to do is to look in google.

There are some great articles on some of the local club websites.

Some of the goodeids are easy as guppies Melauriga. In my own experience, the Ameca splendens are just as easy as guppies but the fish themselves are bigger so they need a bigger tank and to me, they are more worth having too. I also have some Limia melanogasters and they have been no problem at all to keep healthy but need a tank heater, unlike the Amecas. They breed almost as easy as endlers and are filling the tank that I have them in. Another easy to keep fish is the Xenotoca eiseni. They require no particular temperature and even do better if you let it move around as the house temperature does. I have also found that Xenotaenia resolanae breed quite well in my El Natural tank with very few water changes and feeding them mostly on good quality flake food. Many of the fish that I have are the easier end of the goodeid species and are as easy as you would expect at that end of the spectrum.
