I have made a number of posts here already but am having a very basic problem. If I sit down long enough to type more than a few lines, I get a message that implies I have been away too long and am being treated as if I was not signed in. The only response I have found that works is to copy the post to my clipboard, shut down my browser, restart the browser and quickly paste the post into the reply box. This post itself is getting long enough that I may need to do it this time.
I guess it was quick enough this time.

How long is too long would you say? I can't say I've come across that problem personally.

When I go into the reply page, it is usually to write a fairly long post, which might take me 10 or 15 minutes to write, and I've had the timeout notice as well. I copy the post to clipboard also, and go back to the ALA home page. Sometimes I can just go forward to the forums again and it will let me post, other times I have to log in at home page again.

that happened to me today. I just copied what i'd written, hit the back button, hit reply, pasted in my text and hit submit and it was happy. I'll go look and see if there's a setting somewhere for that.

I think I found it and it was set to 15 minutes.
I upped it to 30 minutes.
