Hi All, We will be moving from Florida to Colorado in a couple of months. I was wondering how to get my Guppies and Betas there?

I have about 35 fish right know. Any and all ideas would be nice.

Thanks, Jim Russell

If the population is small and the species selection does not require much separation, try placing them in a 5 gallon bucket about half full of water and just drive to the new location. I moved 4 separate species in 4 separate buckets to the ALA convention that way and had great results. I probably moved at least 35 fish in those 4 buckets. One bucket contained my full breeding colony of limias because I was not going to have room for them at home after the convention.
The Bettas might be a bit of a challenge but you can always get a typical fish shop bag for each male and bag him 1/3 water and 2/3 air. I held lots of convention auction fish that way for 2 days and had no losses at all. Starve the fish 2 days before bagging and put the fish in bags into a typical ice chest (no ice) to hold their temperatures fairly constant. At the other end, set up the tanks with their mature filters and you can start acclimating the shipped fish. If you keep the filter media wet, sloshing around in a shallow bucket of water works, while you make your move, the filters will also arrive ready to use too. The only caveat with a move that far is that the water from the tap on the other end may be quite different to the water your fish are in. A gradual acclimation to the new water is a must for the fish's sake.

Start eating ice cream - the ice cream buckets are perfect for moving and all sorts of fishroom functions. If you need help, I'm willing to eat ice cream for you. ;)

I have this link bookmarked as a reasonably good reference for moving fish - Moving Fish - You CAN take them with you.

Good luck!
