First off, welcome! I'm glad to hear that your love of aquariums and fish has been rekindled.

Second off, I'm sorry to hear about your guppies... Did they have any spots on them at all? I have guppies as well, and sometimes, especially after being moved/stressed, they get Ich, getting white spots all over them, especially the tails. Also, what is your male:female ratio? Are the tanks planted still, or do you have separate, non-planted tanks for your guppies?

As far as guppies go, I personally don't add salt to my tank. However, I have heard that some people do put some salt in their guppy tanks, so I'm not sure if they like the salt water.

Very nice idea! Hope it works.

I know how you feel about guppies. They're so small, yet the genetics are amazing! So many choices!

I've really just gotten the guppies I have now from an LFS a couple months ago (I am NEVER going to Petco for fish EVER again!), and it looks like the female I got was impregnated by a yellow male; the kids are just coloring and I can see the yellow and black in their tails and fins! I'm personally looking on Aquabid.com and in my area for purple guppies, just to try and start my own strain with a mix of yellow and purple coloration. Theoretically, the two opposing colors should strike out, making the future guppies aesthetically pleasing.

Hello! I'm fairly new to these forums, but not to the hobby (or, as my girlfriend calls it, obsession) with fish. My dad owns and operates a 50-gallon saltwater tank, and I shared his passion for fish, having a 10-20 gallon (I always forget whether it's 10 or 20!) freshwater tank in my room with guppies.
Personally, I find the little fish fascinating. I'd love to get more, larger tanks in the future, but or now, I'm content with the tank I have.
