For my goodeids, I simply place the fish in a tank, feed them well, do a few water changes and sell all of the adults at least once a year. That holds the population down to merely crowded in most tanks. For the more common, and harder to breed by the way, livebearers, I use the birthing tank that Mel said could work. By moving the female about a week to 10 days before I expect a drop, the female has time to settle in and relax and with a very little cover the result can look like this on day 1 of the drop.

A few weeks later that same tank can look like this, with only daily feeding and a few water changes as care for the fry.
