You said you know how to epub but are you volunteering to head this project. Ala is mad up of great volunteers. If you are volunteering thank you and keep up the good work anyway.

I can put them together once the files are prepped for the paper version. Contact me directly.

We really ought to do EPUB versions and put them up on Amazon for sale with proceeds going back into the club. (I know how to do this.)

Three benefits. One, it expands the reach of the club. Two, it will serve as a permanent archive that we could keep in a download area of the ALA website so members can grab back issues. Third, it will generate a trickle of income to the club pretty much forever.

PDF is big and that's a lot of file. Better might be EPUB and MOBI formats. The benefit here is that the compilations could be put up on Amazon and Barnes and Noble for sale to the general public, with proceeds going back into the ALA treasury. With PDF that isn't viable.

Not during monsoon.

Anyway, I posed the question to the three major clubs in Phoenix and the response was as I expected.

The largest club is mostly cichlids. They have the manpower, but not the will to do an ALA convention.

The killifish club already holds an annual event in March that does get a lot of livebearer cross-over, but that group is really too small to host an ALA convention.

The planted tank club shares most of their members with the other two clubs.

Personally, I suspect San Diego or Los Angeles might be more fertile grounds.

It could simply have to do with the health of your initial stock of fish. In Phoenix I can't really keep my tanks under 86 degrees all summer, and my mollies are doing just fine, so it isn't just the temperature.

It's not a simple task to acquire fish from a fish store and take steps to be assured they are 100% healthy. There are often latent illnesses that will emerge under stresses when the immune system is weakened.

As you gain experience, these things will get easier. You'll have fish survive that critical first month to six weeks. There are a lot of little subtleties that books don't tell you about. It takes time to get a feel for this stuff.

I guarantee you there isn't an ALA member who hasn't lost fish due to a mistake. The good new is we learn from those mistakes so eventually we have fish that are healthier than those kept by people who don't really pay them much attention.

Really? You like a week straight of 110 or above?

I'm not sure any of the three major clubs in Phoenix would be capable of sponsoring an ALA convention right now. March would be a little better than April, though. I'll ask around and see if there is any interest in doing it in Phoenix sometime over the next few years.

My sailfin mollies live in about 85 degree water all summer in Phoenix. Must have been other factors.

I have Julidochromis dickfeldi in the same hard water tank as my sailfin mollies and flagfish.
