I think he was asking for links to sites for wild livebearers other than godeids. A great site for wild xiphophorus is www.xiphophorus.org . Was there a specific type of wild livebearer you were trying to find information on?

You could label them as wild type platys. I have seen these same types of platys at my local fish store in the feeder guppy tanks. The reason I say you can label them as wild type is because in all actual reality they are wild type. To me the term wild means they were caught in the wild and the term wild type means they resemble wild type fish but their true ancestory can not be verified. As a breeder and a seller you always want to maintain a good reputation. Do not label them as any specific type of platy or speculate on their origins regardless of how much they may look like a certain type. Labeling them as a wild type platy you found at your local petstore that you do not have the exact origins on would be the truth. Another thing you need to disclose is if they breed true, unless of course you have bred a few generations and you know they breed true.

Uh oh Betty, you opened a can of worms here. In the last forum we had an interesting debate about this. In my opinion as long as they are lacking production of melanin in some degree from inherited altered genes then they can be considered albino. Some albinism is limited to just the eyes, referred to as ocular albinism, some to just the skin and sometimes both, referred to as oculocutaneous albinism. Oculocutaneous albinism actually has four subtypes according to how much pigment is produced in certain areas. A perfect example of lack of melanin in the eyes only is the blood red albinos. Although the melanin production in their skin has not been altered they have inherited a gene that does not make the normal amount of pigment (melanin) in the retina. You could go further by using examples of mammals. Any mammal that has all white hair, even though their retina is black and their skin is normal color, is considered albino because they have inherited a pigment altering gene that affects only the hair. When most people think of albino they immediately think that all pigment production is lost; this is not the case however. As long as at least one of the inherited altering pigment production genes is present to some degree then that fish or mammal is considered albino.

But oldman how will we ever know when we are close to death without seeing our hitpoints. And how will we ever defeat the undead troll demon if we do not have any magic points?

I have now obtained nine varieties of swordtails, two platys and a few other fish. I am getting rid of all of the platys and the other random fish to make room for a swordtail only fish room. I am sure that something will come along eventually and catch my eye that is not a swordtail but until then space is limited and Im addicted to swordtails. My stock is ever steadily increasing and soon I will have to get more tanks to contain them all. Here are a few pics of my fish. The only ones I have not taken pictures of is the black berlin as they just arrived and I do not want to stress them out.

I prefer to post my pictures using html links and have never had a problem with it until now. For some reason it does not show the picture when I post the html link in general discussion. I tried posting in html in the other topics section of the forum and it works fine.

I use to breed these yellow broad pattern snakeskin guppies but got rid of them a long time ago. All I ever see now is the lace pattern. Does anyone know where I might be able to find my long lost guppies?

So I decided to conduct an experiment with the greenworks line of dish soap. I took a mature filter and some of my culls and put them in a ten gallon tank. I then added two tablespoons of greenworks dish soap and left it for two weeks with no water changes. I know what your thinking, poor fish, it sure is hard being a culled fish, you either become fish food for larger fish or you get used in Mikes crazy experiments. I did feed the fish regularly and after two weeks not a single fish had died and the filter still seemed to be fine as there were no detectable levels of ammonia in the tank. I use this soap to wash my hands before I mess with any of the tanks or feed any of the fish and I wanted to see how safe it really was. Now Im not saying to go and add this stuff to all your tanks but for washing your hands if a little were to get left on them your fish would not suffer. So to wrap it up I will say this stuff is fish safe and frog approved. If anyone has any experiences with any other cleaning chemicals that they use, that are either safe or unsafe, please post it.
