Conservation::C.A.R.E.S. Who has what fish?
Here is the collection information on the Allotoca goslinei;

I purchased them from Chase Klinster At the 2007 GVAC September garage sale.
Chase received them from Pat Hartman. (I don't have a date)
Pat purchased them at the 2006 ALA convention as a donation from Joel Healy.
Joel received his from Ted Randall in October of 2005.
Ted received his from Philip Kukulski in July of 2005.
Philip received his from David Hackenberg in October of 2004.
David received his fish from Ivan Dibble in the spring of 2003.
Ivan Dibble and Dr. John Lyons collected these fish from Rio Potrero Grande, Mexico in 2000
Conservation::Need opinions on keeping threatened/endangered fish
No standard regarding how to deal with mixing AS. There are a number of wild fish that are now AS, even though there are limited collection sites--and how far is seperation in distance needed to qualify for non-mixing of fish? With goodeids, waterholes are probably sufficient reason to not mix the fish even if they are the 'same species'..

Ric,

I was just checking to see if those fish that I sent to you two weeks ago got there in decent condition. Shipping fish through the mail is something new for me. I've received but never shipped. I was just curious whether they made the the trip okay.

Harry Knaub

Looking for Characodon lateralis [by joefish72]

Conservation::Looking for Characodon lateralis
I'm looking to expand my breeding program and I would like to find a pair of Characodon lateralis. I already have 2 other goodied species and have had successful spawnings from both. I feel at this point I am ready to maintain a more seriously threatened fish. If anyone has a pair they are willing to sell I would be very grateful.

If not, what are my chances of obtaining this fish at the ALA Convention? I'm a member of the host club and also a registered vendor so I'll be there for sure. If anyone is planning on having them there I would love to reserve a pair since it would be great to just pick them up rathe than risk shipping.

Lake eutrophication causes loss of fish species [by Melody]

Conservation::Lake eutrophication causes loss of fish species

The study demonstrates that eutrophication levels not only account for the loss of species but are also responsible for the loss of differentiation among the surviving species.

Evolutionary biologist Ole Seehausen, the lead author of the study, comments "Speciation reversal appears to be more widespread than has previously been supposed; this process involves the rapid disappearance of species which evolved over thousands of years by adaptation to specific ecological conditions.

"This means that the protection of biodiversity requires not only the conservation of existing species, but the protection of ecological and evolutionary processes which assure the maintenance of specialists and promote the generation of new species.

Lake eutrophication causes loss of fish species
