I agree with the temperature differnce. However I don't know why Amecas have such a bad rep. I have guppies, swordtails, a betta, mollies and Alfara Cultratus in with mine and they are just fine. The guppies were born in the tank and have been in there for almost a year now, although they are about 1/8 the size of my largest Ameca their fins are intact.
